Uzbekistan has headed the CIS Tourism Council
The decision to transfer the chairmanship to Uzbekistan was made at a meeting of the Tourism Council in Dushanbe. The head of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan, Abdulaziz Akkulov, became the chairman of the organization.
The Uzbek delegation presented the country’s priorities at the meeting and spoke about the development of tourism education. Separately, the work of the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage in Samarkand, which has been designated as the CIS base organization in the field of tourism, was reviewed.
Deputy Chairman of the Tourism Committee Sanjar Tadjiev spoke about the university’s international cooperation and its educational and scientific programs. The expansion of ties between specialized universities of the CIS countries was also discussed.
Another area that participants proposed focusing on is the exchange of tourism statistics and analytics. The countries plan to improve interaction between specialized agencies and establish the exchange of data on mutual tourist flows. In the future, this will make it possible to plan the development of the industry more effectively.
During its chairmanship, Uzbekistan intends to promote joint tourist routes and cross-border trips, strengthen cooperation between educational institutions, and pay more attention to training qualified personnel.
The next meeting of the CIS Tourism Council will take place in 2027 in Uzbekistan.
