Uzbekistan intends to increase the tourist flow to 20 million by 2030

Uzbekistan plans to increase the number of foreign tourists to 20 million by 2030 and raise tourism’s share in the country’s GDP to 7%, reports a correspondent of the IA “Dunyo” with reference to the magazine “Kyiv Diplomatic”.

This was announced during a meeting between the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the Secretary-General of “UN Tourism”, Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, held as part of her visit to the country.

The sides discussed further expansion of long-term cooperation with this specialized UN agency. The head of the organization highly praised the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan in the tourism sector, including the modernization of infrastructure, the development of tourism services, and the expansion of the geography of air connections.

It was noted that over the past eight years, the flow of tourists to the country has increased sixfold and reached almost 12 million people.

The active momentum of interaction with UN Tourism was also emphasized. In particular, the organization’s General Assembly was held in Samarkand in 2023, the International Tourism Academy was established, and the opening of the “Tourism on the Silk Road” office is planned in the near future.

In addition, on Uzbekistan’s initiative, a UN General Assembly resolution was adopted proclaiming 2027 the International Year of Sustainable Tourism.

Following the meeting, readiness was confirmed for the further development of the partnership, including the implementation of joint projects and the training of personnel for the tourism industry.
