Uzbekistan is becoming one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Central Asia

Uzbekistan is strengthening its position on the world tourism map, driven not only by its rich historical heritage but also by an open tourism policy, modern infrastructure, and expanding international ties.

A country once known primarily as a destination for pilgrimage or historical and cultural tourism is now attracting interest in gastronomic, eco-, medical, and business tourism. This is clearly reflected in the figures. According to the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 6,565,410 foreign nationals visited Uzbekistan for tourism purposes in January–June. This is 1.3 million more, or 24.9%, compared to the same period last year. The largest share of tourists came from neighbouring countries: 1.87 million from Kyrgyzstan, 1.55 million from Kazakhstan, and 1.47 million from Tajikistan. These figures point to expanding regional tourism ties, cross-border cooperation, and transport connectivity.

At the same time, arrivals of 585,500 tourists from Russia, 238,900 from Afghanistan, and 223,400 from China indicate Uzbekistan’s growing appeal in international markets.

According to analysts, the main drivers behind the growth in tourist numbers are the expansion of the visa-free regime, new flight routes, the development of hotel infrastructure, active promotion of the country at international exhibitions, and rising interest in Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva. Uzbekistan attracts foreign visitors not only with its historical and architectural monuments but also with modern tourism services, national cuisine, festivals, and eco-tourism offerings. This further strengthens the country’s position as one of the most competitive tourism hubs in Central Asia.

Given the new international flights, joint tourism routes, and major international events planned for the second half of the year, the number of foreign tourists visiting Uzbekistan is expected to reach even higher levels by the end of the year.
